Structured to meet the requirements of the AFRM, topics covered will include
team assessment of individuals with an upper limb amputation;
medical, physical and functional intervention;
prescription options for upper limb prostheses including an overview of prosthetic componentry;
prescription checkout;
principles of prosthetic training.
The course includes a practical component.
At the completion of the Course, all participants will have an understanding of:
* management of upper limb amputees from a multidisciplinary team perspective assessment,
* intervention and long-term follow-up, with a focus on continuity of care;
*clinical and functional issues relevant to specific levels of upper limb amputation;
*interventions specific to amputation level including options for prosthetic prescription;
*life experiences of individuals with an upper limb amputation from their own perspective.
The primary objective is to promote effective communication amongst team members and promote continuity of care.
Lectures, demonstrations and group participation sessions.Practical sessions will include exposure to and discussion with clients who have a range of different conditions including trans-radial and/or trans-humeral amputation, congenital and multiple limb deficiency.
Final evaluation will be a multiple choice examination and a certificate will be issued to successful candidates.
Information on the latest prosthetic components as well as up-to-date literature will be displayed for perusal by registrants.
Participants who are AFRM fellows may be eligible for MOPS points. Participants who are AOPA members will be eligible for continuing professional development points.
