THE CHARCOT FOOT: ORTHOTIC MANAGEMENT OF NEUROPATHIC ARTHROPATHY
The progressive, painless
destruction of the joint and bones that world’s first neurologist, Jean-Martin
Charcot first described in the 1800s is an
increasingly common problem for today’s diabetic, with significant morbidity
unless it is diagnosed promptly and managed properly. Mismanagement of the Charcot foot is a
significant source of malpractice claims for both physicians and orthotists...full abstract

GEL LINERS:
WHAT WE KNOW AND WHAT WE DON’T
Interest in the use of gel interfaces is growing worldwide,

clinicians to rely primarily on their subjective experiences for guidance....full abstract

Controversial
trends in North American Prosthetic and Orthotic Practice
Presented by John W.
Michael as an Australia wide videoconference on the 13th October, 1999)

On Wednesday October 13th 1999
10am–11.30am (Eastern Standard Time), a link up of 12 sites was performed to
deliver an update seminar to the Australian Prosthetic and Orthotic industry.
Eleven sites where around Australia
with every State represented including the Northern Territory.
In the first of its kind in this area,
John W. Michael, an extremely sought after presenter and educator in the field
made three presentations and then took questions from the assembled Australia–wide audience of almost 100
professionals. This was done with John Michael in Minneapolis
U.S.A.
The session was well received and
participants all had an opportunity for questions and discussion.
The seminar was videotaped and the
presentations are available on (REHAB Tech’s website) below.
This exciting initiative was part of the
overall Telemedicine/Telerehab approach which REHAB Tech has been investigating
and adopting both in the educational as well as clinical service delivery areas
for the small but widespread prosthetic and orthotic field.
